A magnificent family home overlooking the sea with direct beach access for seasonal surfing and swimming.
The location of Villa Ruby is wonderful, sitting at the water’s edge with far-reaching sea views and direct access to the beach. Inside the villa is contemporary and minimal, with high vaulted ceilings, eye catching art work and pretty Farrow & Ball green shutters welcoming the outdoors in. There’s a huge open plan living space furnished with comfortable seating and a pool table. Step outside on to the spacious terrace, which is perfect for al fresco dining - the villa’s chef is excellent and can cook a range of western and Sri Lankan cuisine, so guests can sit back and relax.
There are four bedrooms in the main house including the master suite with a king size four-poster bed and a sleek, spacious bathroom. Three further bedrooms - made up of one double. one twin and one double bunk room are also all en suite and housed in the main building's inner courtyard. The fifth bedroom is the garden suite just a few metres from the main house and can be made up as a twin or a double.
Outside, is split into three levels of gorgeous tiered gardens, with the house at the top level. Steps lead down to the next level, which is home to a fabulous pool looking out to sea, while the third leads via the garden gate directly to the beach below, which has a small bay with a surf break for experienced surfers in season - there’s also a beginner’s bay within short driving distance. Meanwhile, restaurants and bars of Weligama are less than 10 minutes away by car and Galle is just 30km away.
A stay at Ruby can be as active or as leisurely as you prefer. Stroll along the beach, enjoy an in-villa spa treatment or practice yoga in the garden. Embark on coastal cruises or whale/dolphin watching (seasonal), learn to surf at Weligama Bay, or go stand up paddle boarding, Dive in the Indian Ocean or sea kayak with a nearby dive school. Head into the city of Matara to explore the two Dutch forts. Take a half day trip to Galle; explore the fort on foot or shop and dine. We also recommend visiting a lowland tea plantation for an estate tour and a tasting session. A superb property - early booking recommended.
Guests are recommended to discuss their requirements with the Villa Manager and chef and advise of any allergies. Galle or Matara, a little further away, are better for shopping and we therefore recommend that you decide on the menu for a few days at a time. There is a lot of fish that is available locally. Payment of food is done by a cash float system to pay for ingredients and the transport to get them. As a suggestion budget for US$30 per day per adult for the first couple of days. US$15 for 12 yr olds and under. After shopping and or when the float runs out the staff will hand over receipts and any change. It may be more expensive than you think so guests are encouraged to go shopping at least once to get a feel and it is also fun. This is entirely up to you and by no means necessary.
The villa manager of the property you are staying in will meet you on arrival and visit you during your stay if you wish, and both the villa manager and a CV Villas representative will be available by phone. Contact details will be sent with your travel documents.
